SIX-MONTHLY SERVICING AND SAFETY INSPECTIONS
Six Section 2 of the 1999 P.I.A.C. Guidelines, entitled "The Guide to the Safe Use of Power Operated Paper Cutting Guillotines”, outlines users legal responsibilities* (See footnote), for the continued safe operation of guillotines.
The schemes offered all include the checks and tests for guillotine safety systems as outlined in the P.I.A.C. document, together with an inspection of the machine's functional parts.
On completion of each visit we will provide you with a "Safety Certificate" - followed in due course by a comprehensive engineer’s report - for each machine, which will help you to meet your obligations under the requirements of outlined in Section 2 of the P.I.A.C. Safety guidelines.
We offer the following Schemes:
Schedule A: includes - Repairs, Adjustments, Oil/Fluid Changes and Safety Certification.
Schedule B: includes - Adjustments and Safety Certification.
Schedule C: includes - Checks and Safety Certification.
Schedule E: includes - Adjustments, Oil/Fluid Changes and Safety Certification.
SCHEME DETAILS
Schedule A: Major Service
This scheme allows for an ongoing service procedure that is designed to maintain the guillotines in optimum working condition. The work would be carried out in two parts at six monthly intervals, and would include the work listed in the schedule below.
The maintenance scheme is based on two visits per annum, carried out by two technicians, one electrical and one mechanical.
PART A. (First visit)
The first visit would include a service of the following:
Stopping performance test, examination of the photoelectric guard and clamp beam static gauging force test, in accordance with the recommendations of the P.I.A.C. Guidelines.
Change of hydraulic fluid and knife-drive gearbox oil, and full machine lubrication in accordance with the specifications of the manufacturer.
PART B. (Second visit)
The second visit would be carried out six months later.
This service would include an inspection only and adjustments, where necessary, of the items listed in Part A, and will also include the stopping performance test, examination of the photo-electric guard and clamp beam static gauging force test, in accordance with the recommendations of the P.I.A.C. Guidelines.
Schedule B: Minor Service
This scheme is designed to minimise major mechanical and electrical failures by employing the principle of preventative maintenance, whereby minor faults and component deterioration may be identified early and steps taken to rectify such problems before major and costly failures occur.
The work would be carried out in two parts at six monthly intervals, and would include the work listed in the schedule below.
The scheme is based on two visits per annum, carried out by two technicians, one electrical and one mechanical.
Each visit would include an inspection and adjustments, if necessary, of the following:
Stopping performance test, examination of the Photo-electric guard and Clamp beam static gauging force test, in accordance with the recommendation of the P.I.A.C. Guidelines.
Change of hydraulic fluid and knife-drive gearbox oil, and full machine lubrication in accordance with the specifications of the manufacturer, would be carried out during the 1st. service visit.
Schedule C: Safety Check
This scheme is designed to assist you in meeting your obligations as outlined in section 2, sub-section 2a, of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
The maintenance scheme is based on two visits per annum, carried out by one technician.
Each visit would include an inspection of the machine's safety systems. We will then provide a report on the condition of the machine, together with a certificate verifying the machine's standard of safety.
If the inspection reveals that any aspect of the machine's safety equipment falls short of the recognised standard contained in the PIAC Guidelines, we shall on request be pleased to advise, or offer a quotation for any remedial work necessary.
Schedule E: Service Scheme
This scheme is designed to minimise major mechanical and electrical failures by employing the principle of preventative maintenance, whereby minor faults and component deterioration may be identified early and steps taken to rectify such problems before major and costly failures occur.
The work would be carried out in two parts at six monthly intervals, and would include the work listed in the schedule below.
Each visit would include an inspection and adjustments, if necessary, of the following:
The service also includes instrument tests to verify the stopping performance of the machine and the static gauging force of the clamp beam, in accordance with the recommendation of the P.I.A.C. document.
Change of hydraulic fluid and knife-drive gearbox oil, and full machine lubrication in accordance with the specifications of the manufacturer.
The hydraulic fluid and knife-drive gearbox oil would only be changed at the first service visit, and annually thereafter, however a full lubrication of the machine would be carried out at each six monthly service interval.
*Note: The Health & Safety Executive endorse the P.I.A.C. Safety Guidelines, and as such it is the authoritative document describing methods for achieving the minimum standard of safety at guillotines. As such it may be referred to in a Court or Tribunal to demonstrate the standard of safety that should be achieved.
